Frequently Asked Questions

Your Account

As a teacher, you can get started for free. Simply fill out the form at, and you will receive your login details via email.

If you are a student, you will get invited by your teacher, i.e. you do not need to register yourself.

When your subscription expires, your user account is transferred to the free usage tier. All of your previously created data, including your courses and templates, remains completely intact. The free tier has some usage limitations, but your full data will be completely accessible when you renew your subscription.

Your login details should arrive within a few minutes to the email address that you have registered or been invited with. If the email does not show in your inbox, make sure to check the spam folder of your email account as well.

If you cannot find the email, you can request a new password on the login page at Select your environment, click on “Can’t access your account?” and then enter the email address you have registered or been invited with. Click on “Get new password” and a new password will be generated and sent to you via email.

If you still do not receive the email, make sure you are using the correct email address. If you have registered your own account, you can try re-registering. If you’re a student and have been invited by your teacher, verify with your teacher which email address they have used to invite you.

You can reset your password on KungFu Writing’s login page. Go to and select your environment. Then click on “Can’t access your account?” and enter the email address you use to log in. Click on “Get new password” and you will receive your password via email.

If you receive the message “Incorrect credentials” when trying to log in, make sure you are using the correct password. If you think you might have forgotten your password, you can reset it from the login page (see also “I have forgotten my password.”).

You should also make sure that you are using the correct email address. If you are a student, find the invitation email and verify that it was received by the same account you are using to log in. Remember that your teacher may not have used your primary email address when inviting you to a course.

If the login page does not respond, the system may be undergoing scheduled maintenance. Please wait for the maintenance period to end and then log in.

You can also try refreshing your browser by pressing the reload button on your browser or F5 on your keyboard.

Technical Questions

Students may turn in their papers either by writing them directly in KungFu Writing, or by uploading a document. Document upload supports multiple formats, and unfortunately some formats cannot be perfectly converted to the format required for commenting. Some formatting options used by various word processors may cause the text to have an incorrect layout when presented for commenting.

When possible, you should instruct your students to avoid using overly complex formatting in their texts. You can also use a recommended template on your course, which you have verified as working well.

You can always download the original file submitted by students to verify the original layout. When commenting a student’s text, go to the “Settings” tab and click on “Download original document”.

KungFu Writing is optimized for use with the latest desktop versions of Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer (8.0 or later) browsers.

Mobile devices are not fully supported at the moment.
